Biography

A staunch champion of injury victims throughout her career, Kira Damusis has a wealth of pre-litigation and litigation experience which she gained working as an attorney at a number of Detroit area law firms before joining The Smith Law Offices, where she has brought her expertise in handling automobile accidents, premises liability, dog bites, and has further expanded into family law, bankruptcy, debt negotiation and collections.

Kira first entered the world of personal injury practice before becoming licensed to practice working as a law clerk while she studied for the Michigan State Bar Exam. With both personal and professional experience of the physical, emotional, and financial burdens such injuries can impose, personal injury practice is as much a calling as it is her job. Her ability to genuinely relate to her clients’ experiences and knowing how complicated and confusing legal terms and issues can be to those suffering from physical and emotional pain, Kira is compelled to provide not only outstanding but also compassionate legal representation.

A Michigan native, Kira earned her bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a World Literature Concentration and Legal Studies Minor from Central Michigan University where she graduated magna cum laude. Kira subsequently attended the Michigan State University Detroit College of Law where she earned her juris doctorate.

When she is not in the courtroom or the office, Kira enjoys spending time with her family, friends and beloved pets, and loves exploring the great outdoors, playing disc golfing, swimming, and hiking.

Q. I received a default request entry and the amount is $4600 from a car accident that happened in 2018
A: Allowing a default judgment to be entered against you would result in Plaintiff being given an order allowing them to seek $4,600.00 against you via appropriate collections procedures. You should NOT allow a default judgment to be entered against you. I would recommend contacting the insurance company that insured the vehicle you were operating at the time of the accident. If the policy was valid, they should provide an attorney for your defense pursuant to the terms of the contract for insurance. If the insurance company refuses to provide an attorney, I would advise you to appear in court at the next hearing date and inform the court of any/all circumstances you are aware of that may be relevant to the issue of damages as well as your personal liability for those damages including the insurance company's response to your demand for representation. Defending yourself on a relatively small claim such as this is difficult but not impossible. I would definitely recommend finding the insurance company that insured the vehicle you were driving and starting there. Hope this is helpful!

Warm Regards,

Kira Damusis, Esq.
