- After receiving his Bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University, Kenichi worked with Dr. Takao Hensch at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, located outside of Tokyo, to research changes in circuit properties of the mouse visual cortex during early postnatal development. During his graduate research, with Dr. Venketesh Murthy at Harvard University, he combined cell-culture, molecular biology, fluorescent imaging, and electrophysiology techniques to study the activity-dependent regulation of GABAergic neurotransmission between rat hippocampal neurons. He then joined the lab of Dr. Carla Shatz at Harvard Medical School as a postdoctoral fellow to study the role of Class I Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) signaling in neurodevelopment and synaptic plasticity, utilizing various strains of transgenic and knockout mice.
