Jose Rivera is currently admitted to practice of law and litigation in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as admitted to its Federal District Court.
He is fluently bilingual in English and Spanish and possess a broad experience in the general litigation practice.
Those experiences, skills and duties that include, but are not limited to civil procedures, family law, divorce litigation, child custody, criminal law and procedures, administrative procedures, Immigration procedures, probate law, labor law, collections, Wills and testaments, neighbors disputes, TROs, property law, real estate, Evictions, Torts, diverse contracts, property regime and complete aspect of condominium laws, appeals and appellate procedures.
During his early years he has worked assisting different attorneys and Judges from the First Instance Court. This has given him the experience to develop drafting, research. negotiation, defense, litigation and other skills which motivated me to pursue an active litigation career.

- Q. I know there is no alimony in PR but does it change if the wife has never worked and has been dependent on the husband?
- A: Greetings Although is not normal and there's no alimony in Puerto Rico, there are some extraordinary circumstances when one of the parties can request spousal support, this is temporary and there are several requirements to be able to request them. Remember that spousal support is not the norm, it's an exception to the rule. This will not rule out the possibility of common property division and other responsibilities and rights related to the divorce.

- A: Greetings As her legal guardian the state can try to make sure that the minor has her own space and that she-he is provided with everything required for her/his well being taking in consideration the economic means and capability of the legal guardian to be able to take care of the minor.

- A: Greetings You can request temporary spousal support and some specific situations, even though is not the norm in the Puerto Rico jurisdiction to grant alimony, you can ask for ex conjugal support until you have the means to support or fend for yourself. Note that this can be possible only in special and extraordinary circumstances.
