Jonathan (Gianni) Karmily
Law Firm of Gianni Karmily, PLLCGianni is native of Italy. He holds a B.B.A. from Hofstra University. He has always been interested in making a difference. As a result, while in law school, he started getting involved as a summer intern for the Legal Aid and Defender Association in Detroit, Michigan, where he gained a greater understanding of the different aspects of the criminal justice system. He received his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law where he served as President of the International Law Society. He looks forward every day to being the voice of an individual facing charges of felonies, misdemeanors, and violations. “Our job is to be the voice of that person and to make sure the system doesn’t roll over them. In New York State, a criminal conviction lasts for your entire life, so avoiding a criminal conviction is extremely important. There are many ways you can protect someone from having a devastating result forever. It is always a great relief when you are able to return a person to freedom.” Gianni is a member of the (NYSACDL) New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the (CCBANC) Criminal Courts Bar Association of Nassau County. Gianni has been honored by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Criminal Law for New York Metro from 2019 to 2024.

- Q. If I spoke to a lawyer for a consultation and let him know I haven’t been charged can he tell the cops what i did
- A: He is certainly prohibited from telling law enforcement. Once you consulted with the lawyer, whatever you told him is confidential (except for a few narrow exceptions) and the attorney/client privilege will attach in the event criminal charges are filed.
- Q. I was caught shoplifting at Sephora with my friend. Do i need to pay the $500 fine?
- A: While the retailer may technically make this civil demand and later decide to sue, at our law firm, we have successfully defended close to 100 shoplifting charges, and we have never since an actual legal action be brought for the monetary amount you are describing.
