Cooley Law School (Michigan), 2008 Since studying at Queen’s University where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Political Science, Jay Nadarajah has been devoted to serving the needs of the immigrant community through her numerous volunteer endeavors. Immigrating to Canada at a very young age, she has developed a passion for helping this segment of society. She is fluent in both English and Tamil. Ms. Nadarajah has legal experiences in various jurisdictions in the United States, where she obtained her Juris Doctor law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She is currently a licenced attorney in New Jersey where she had briefly practiced in the areas of immigration and family law. While in law school she interned at Legal Aid & Defender Association in Detroit. Also, her internship at the District Attorney’s office (both in Detroit, MI and Brooklyn, NY) has broadened her knowledge and provided her with the unique perspective in criminal defence. Jay Nadarajah worked as a lien clerk for a prominent law firm representing Condominium Corporations while getting her qualifications for her Ontario licence. She is currently Articling at Aitken Robertson, handling everything from meeting with clients, attending adjournments at different Ontario Courts of Justice, assisting in preparation of cases for trial, including pre-trial memos and legal research, participating in Crown resolution meetings, attending pleas and sentencing that are within her scope, and attending summary offence trials at Ontario Court of Justice as well as Provincial Offence Court. Ms. Nadarajah was called to the Ontario Bar on January 24, 2014; she will then become the newest member of the Aitken Robertson team of exceptional lawyers. Jay assists our clients facing charges in Durham Region.
