Jamil Francisco Karwash
I was born in San Francisco, California and have been a lifelong resident of the East Bay and the San Francisco Bay Area. My parents are natives of Nicaragua and come from a hard working class family. My family spoke primarily Spanish in the home so I learned to speak both fluent Spanish and English at an early age. Because of my background, I understand and appreciate the various pressures and issues hard working people face in the community. I grew up and went to high school in the East Bay city of Newark. I graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 2001 with a degree in legal studies. During college I worked for the Own Recognizance Project in Berkeley, helping release people from jail. I continue to have a relationship with the program and have been invited multiple times to speak to the students who are presently members of the Own Recognizance Project. After college, I attended Seton Hall University School of Law in New Jersey. During law school I worked for the Legal Aid Society of New York helping families and youth from the Bronx with their juvenile criminal cases. I am a commited, considerate, and concerned individual devoted to protecting and fighting for people charged with crimes. I have represented clients at trial in robbery, resisting arrest, sexual assault, child molestation, and assault with deadly weapon cases. When I am not representing people accused of crimes, I play the guitar, read, play chess, and take my dog for a walk.
