James Brandon Benson
A native of Midland, Texas, Brandon Benson is deeply familiar with the oil and gas industry. His entire career has been focused on serving clients in oil and gas and he focuses his practice on oil and gas transactions, including the counseling of clients in acquisitions and dispositions of leasehold and mineral properties and the negotiation of leases, contracts and other agreements related to upstream oil and gas. Brandon regularly represents: Oil & gas companies in disputes involving land use issues with landowners and surface owners, accommodation doctrine claims, bad faith pooling claims, royalty interest owner disputes related to claims of improper deductions and improper royalty payments, and disputes involving the interpretation and application of joint operating agreements Mineral owners in oil & gas leasing negotiations with exploration and production companies regarding property primarily in the Barnett Shale Pipeline company in litigation related to cathodic protection issues Brandon began his career as an oil and gas lawyer at Locke Lord LLP. From there, Brandon served as the Oil and Gas General Counsel IV for the General Land Office of the State of Texas under former Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson in Austin, Texas. He subsequently served as the Manager of Land and Legal for Dorchester Minerals Limited Partnership located in Dallas, Texas, where he oversaw all of the land and legal processes related to Dorchester’s mineral and working interest operations and acquisitions.
