Poor legal advice that has costs me thousands. No accountability.
Jackie & Liberty Law represented me for my divorce and a protective order. She advised me that if I went to court over custody that I would most likely only get 30% custody (the state minimum). I believed her. I trusted her legal advice. We settled outside of court. I ended up getting 35% custody. I later learned that good parents normally receive between 40-50% custody. This was unfortunate because I love my daughter so much and it's been hard not seeing her as often as I should. She also
allowed language to be entered into our decree that allowed for an automatic protective order if I "annoyed" or had “uncivil communication” with my ex-wife. “Annoying” someone or using “uncivil communication” is not normally the basis for protective order. So, essentially Jackie made the threshold for a protective order so low that my ex-wife could obtain a protective order on the pettiest of actions. This was unfortunate since a rude text exchange has led to a PO. It was later communicated to me by another attorney that her advice was horribly wrong. I should have received far more than 35% custody. Also, allowing a protective order to be entered against me based on annoying someone was horrible legal advice and most likely a basis for a malpractice lawsuit.
I hired a 2nd attorney who told me that 35% was way less than I should have received. Due to a series of events, I was able to get about 40% custody after spending hours out of my personal life and thousands of dollars. I still have an ongoing battle to get the protective order dropped and it has cost me even more time and money. It has also caused me to miss out on more time with my daughter.
I tried repeatedly to resolve these mistakes with Liberty Law, but when I asked them to make right their wrongs I was ignored. Questions that I emailed to them months ago were never addressed. All they did was make excuses and make jokes like, “we’re great at family law.” They even went as far to falsely claim that I was trying to force them to work for them for free. They went into defense and blaming mode vs evaluating their actions and taking accountability. It’s unfortunate, but to me their law firm lacks accountability and integrity.
