Summary

Jack Helgesen received his law degree from BYU in 1980. He moved to Arizona and started his career working as an attorney creating trusts and estate plans. After acquiring an understanding of the legal process, he moved back to Utah and started his own firm with one of his friends from law school. He quickly developed a reputation for winning cases and fighting bullies. As a criminal defense lawyer, he became one of the select few lawyers that have won acquittals from juries in kidnapping, murder and rape trials. He has represent hundreds of young Utahns in the juvenile court system. He won one of the first million dollar awards in Utah in a medical malpractice case. He has won some of the largest settlements in Utah history for injured Utahns. As a consumer trial lawyer and advocate for senior citizens, he filed Brumley v. Tax Commission which was settled for more than $70 million, one of the largest class action settlements in the history of Utah. Many other lawyers across the country have also benefited from Jack Helgesen's knowledge. He served as President for the Utah Trial Lawyers Association, then served as Governor of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America for ten years. He was on the Board of Governors for the Utah Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association of Justice and the Utah Association for Justice. He is currently part of the advisory board for the Utah Association for Justice. He is a Master of the American Inns of Court and a Member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys. He is also a pert time instructor for BYU Continuing Education. Besides being a successful attorney, Jack has also been a busy father. He is the father of eight children, and now has twenty grandchildren.
