Biography

Elizabeth (Liz) Stout is the Executive Director, a mentor attorney, and a practicing attorney at the Maine Community Law Center, a non-profit law firm dedicated to increasing access to justice by providing low cost legal services to Mainers of modest means.

Liz received her law degree from the University of Maine School of Law and passed the Maine Bar in 1990. Since then, she has worked as an Assistant District Attorney, a business litigator, an Assistant Attorney General, and since 2002, as a family law attorney, guardian ad litem (GAL) and mediator.

Over the years, Liz has seen many families struggle with the difficulties of separation and divorce, substance abuse, mental health problems and other difficulties. Her goal in representing clients is to give them a clear analysis of the situation and options to resolve their issues, and then the guidance and advocacy to help them achieve their goals. Resolution by agreement is often the best choice, but if litigation is required, Liz is comfortable prosecuting or defending a case.

As a parent, as a family law attorney and as a Guardian ad litem, the safety and well being of children is always Liz's first priority. Helping clients achieve resolution of their disputes in an efficient, careful and cost effective way can benefit the whole family, whether they live in one house or two.
