Drey Cooley
Business, Commercial Litigation and Intellectual Property Attorney
I am a Shareholder and Assistant General Counsel at Capes Sokol in St. Louis, Missouri. I am a corporate, intellectual property and litigation attorney, counseling and assisting business and individuals in a wide-variety of litigation, business/transactional, commercial real estate, employment, risk management, governance and intellectual property matters.
My business litigation practice largely consists of representing clients in commercial, fiduciary, trust, real estate and construction litigation (including mechanic's liens) in state and federal trial and appellate courts.
In my intellectual property practice, I assist businesses in the protection of their brands and intellectual property portfolios through trademark and copyright infringement litigation, as well as in actions in
front of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). With a background in web development, I have a particular interest in litigation concerning domain names, e-commerce and internet-based trademark and copyright disputes. Aside from litigation, I also apply for, register and prosecute trademarks and copyrights on
behalf of individuals and businesses before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and U.S. Copyright Office and negotiate intellectual property agreements (including licensing, concurrent use and
coexistence agreements).
I also represent for-profit and non-profit businesses and individuals in commercial and high-value residential property tax appeals in front of County Boards of Equalization and the Missouri State Tax Commission. Many of these appeals involve claims of overvaluation or, with respect to non-profit corporations, tax exemptions. I am the author of MissouriRealEstateTaxAppeals.com, a blog discussing Missouri commercial real estate tax appeals and non-profit property tax exemption issues.
