Special Education, Due Process, School Discipline, Abuse & Injury at School
My firm, Vanaman German LLP, focuses exclusively on special education, disability discrimination, and cases involving the injury or abuse of students with disabilities. We specialize in special education litigation from IEP representation through due process hearings and into federal court.
Our areas of expertise include:
Special Education
We offer the full range of special education representation, from IEP advocacy to due process to federal court litigation. Our attorneys combine their deep knowledge of the substance and procedure of special education law with an understanding of education, assessment, and how school district's function, to ensure that our clients are provided with an education truly tailored to meet their individual needs.
Injury and Abuse at School
When our children are at school, the adults who are there to teach and care for them assume a duty to keep them safe. When a child is injured due to the negligence or neglect of school personnel, or when an adult abuses a child, the physical and emotional harm to the entire family can be catastrophic. We have attorneys with extensive experience holding school districts and individuals accountable for causing injuries to children.
Disability Discrimination
Students with disabilities have a right to the same safe access to services, programs, and activities available to their non-disabled peers. They are entitled to receive the accommodations they need to participate fully in all school activities. We will fight with you to stop your child from being subjected to bullying, harassment, unnecessary segregation, or denial of equal access to school programs.

- Q. Are there ever exceptions to EDC 49066? does a teacher always have to be present in all discussion relating to the grade
- A: Although a teacher must be given an opportunity to offer comment and evidence in support of their grade, the actual grade appeal process often proceeds completely through written submissions. It isn't necessarily the case that you will have to present your side of the story in a face-to-face setting, especially during later stages of the grade appeal process. That said, school districts do have discretion with respect to the resolution process which they set up for grade appeals, so you'll have to consult the school board policies and student handbook.
