Darrel J Gardner
CJA Supervising Attorney for the Eastern District of WashingtonDarrel Gardner was born and raised in Alaska. He obtained his J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. After first working for several civil law firms, he became an Alaska state public defender in the early 1990s. In 2003, he started his own private criminal defense practice. In 2008, he joined the Alaska District's CJA Panel and in 2012, he resumed public service a Federal Defender for the District of Alaska. In 2020, Mr. Gardner moved to Spokane where he now serves as the Eastern District of Washington's first CJA Supervising Attorney. In 2009, Mr. Gardner helped to create the Alaska Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and he served as a director and president of the organization. Mr. Gardner was a member of the Board of Governors of the Alaska Bar Association, and he served as president of the Alaska Bar in 2017. He is a past-president of the Alaska Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association for 2023-2025. Mr. Gardner also served as a Lawyer Representative for the District of Alaska and, in 2018, he served as Chair of the Lawyer Representatives Coordinating Committee at the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in Anaheim, CA, where he participated in a panel discussion with Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. Mr. Gardner is a life fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Federal Bar Foundation
