Biography

Before starting my own law firm, I worked for law firms in New York City. I represented people and businesses in lawsuits in court. Other clients needed help with transactions for themselves or their businesses. Some of my favorite clients were young families and small business owners and working with them inspired me to start my own law firm in 2011.

WHAT I LEARNED

Starting my own business helped me understand the challenges and opportunities that confront business owners at all stages of their entrepreneurial journeys. I was immediately amazed at the creative and innovative ways that these businesses worked with their customers. We quickly learned that the heart of a small business is constantly learning and adapting to the changing markets we all operate in.

My business grew and expanded with my clients. We were able to explore new and innovative ways to move our businesses forward. For some clients, their business reached its zenith and it was time to plan for the future or, in some cases, divest their interest or dissolve their partnership so they can pursue new business opportunities.

WHO ARE MY CLIENTS

Running these businesses are people who are passionate and have non-business matters that need legal guidance too. For those individuals, I have represented them in real estate transactions, trust agreements, estate planning, and other legal arrangements to plan for their futures. Unfortunately, some people have complex and high conflict family matters, including divorces, child custody fights and domestic violence orders of protection, and I strive to get the best possible outcomes and treat their cases with the dignity and respect that such an emotional time needs.

WHAT I DO WHEN I AM NOT IN THE OFFICE

When not practicing law, I’m an avid soccer fan and music lover who enjoys playing tennis and exploring my untapped potential as an amateur chef. Each day, I try to wind down with a good book and I am always on the lookout for a good book to read next.

When it comes to business law, there's not normally a "One Size Fits All" solution for your legal needs. Business lawyers work in a variety of areas of law, which seems strange to many clients who see a commercial on TV for websites that claim to handle business law issues (but with a tiny disclaimer at the bottom of the screen that they are not actually a law firm). There are many specialties, from employment law to intellectual property to corporate work to representing businesses in court. Do I Need a Business Lawyer?

While many of my clients spend time thinking about setting up a new business, others are a bit more impulsive. This morning I received a call from a client who wanted to set up an LLC immediately. They had tried to use an online site, but they got bogged down in the forms and language. As he explained, about halfway through, he just gave up trying to sort out the forms. He remembered that his brother had worked with me to set up his company, so he gave me a call. I Need to Quickly Set up an LLC

For some reason, many of the people who come to my office are under the impression that only married people need estate plans. I've never figured out why that's the prevailing wisdom when it's usually people who aren't married who need them the most. For example, if you aren't married and you get sick, who would the doctor speak to about your care? And if all of your accounts are in your name alone and something happens to you, who is the person who should be managing your finances? I'm Not Married - Do I Need a Will?

One of the first major questions you face as a business owner when it's time to incorporate your business is: What form of business should I choose? This will usually come up either at the very beginning before you start a business, or right after you started your business and you're looking at the next steps. It's very important at this step to talk to your accountant and talk to your attorney to make sure you're making the right choice and getting the right advice on what is the next step.
