Albert Katsuaki Gustafson
I have been practicing law in Washington State since 1980. I was born in Tokyo, raised in California, and graduated from Stanford University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts with distinction.
After obtaining my law degree from the University of Washington Law School in 1980, I practiced law in Seattle for seven years. In 1986, I moved to Tokyo to teach negotiations at prominent companies such as NTT, NEC, Nissan, and Hakuhodo. My seminar at NEC was highlighted in a front-page article of the Asian Wall Street Journal in February 1987. Later that year, I participated in the Asian Law program at the University of Washington Law School.
In 1988, I relocated to Tokyo and for 17 years, I handled international investment and business transactions with Japanese clients. During this period, I worked for a Tokyo law firm and served as the only foreign counsel at NTT, which was then the largest corporation in the world.
I was admitted to the New York Bar in 1992 and maintained an office at 40 Wall Street in Manhattan. Additionally, I represented French clients in US investments while working for a French firm in Washington, DC.
During my career, I have represented major Japanese corporations in significant real estate investments across the US, the UK, Hawaii, and Saipan. Notable transactions include the acquisition of the Chicago Hyatt Regency for $250 million, Tower 49 in Manhattan for $220 million, and the Bush House in London for 130 million pounds.
In 2003, I returned to the US and resumed my law practice in New York. After seven years, I moved back to Whidbey Island, Washington, where I now practice law in semi-retirement.
For the past 20 years, I have handled cases in various areas including criminal law/DUI, custody/divorce, corporate law, real estate, personal injury, and estate planning. I do not handle litigation in King County.
My practice is dedicated to providing personalized legal representation to all my clients. I provide free initial consultations.
