Aksana Moshaiv Coone
Admiralty and Maritime Law Specialist
Admiralty and Maritime Law Specialist, as certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization, with 26 years of experience in personal injury and maritime claims.
Ms. Coone's practice focuses on representing cruise ship passengers injured during their cruise and shore excursions, as well as Jones Act seamen injured in the course of their employment on various vessels, including cargo ships, container ships, tankers, and tugboats.
She has previously represented all the major cruise lines, tour operators, and various commercial vessel owners and gained extensive experience in both state and federal courts as well as with preparing appeals. Ms. Coone's work included drafting cruise passage contracts and crew employment agreements, providing direct experience, and understanding how these contractual terms limit cruise passengers' and crew members' rights.
Maritime law is a unique field requiring expertise in understanding which laws apply to a particular incident, the interplay between state, federal, and foreign law, as well as the application of international maritime conventions. Cruise passengers' rights are also severely limited by the terms of passage contracts, while seafarer claims may be limited by Collective Bargaining Agreements or individual employment contracts.
