A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, James Short graduated, cum laude, from the University of Richmond in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received his law degree in 1986 from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. After graduating, Mr. Short was admitted to the Virginia State Bar. He started his career as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Portsmouth and held that position for four years. He has been in private practice since 1991.

Mr. Short has also been very active in the Chesapeake Bar Association where he served as President in 2007. Mr. Short is very involved in the community. He is currently chairman of the Chesapeake Law Library Board. He is also past president of the Portsmouth Optimist Club and a former board member of Girls Incorporated. Mr. Short is very active in youth sports and enjoys coaching his sonâs baseball and basketball teams.

Dan Miller was raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. He graduated from Norfolk Collegiate School in 1985, and graduated from Oxford College in 1987 with an Associate of Arts degree. Dan went on to graduate from Emory University in Atlanta in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Philosophy and Sociology. From 1989 to 1995 Dan played drums in a band based in Atlanta Georgia where he toured the College Circuit throughout the Southeastern United States. In 1997 Dan attended Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing Michigan. Dan graduated a semester early and was admitted to practice law in Virginia in November 1998.

In 1998, Dan was hired by Michael I. Ashe where he laid his foundation focusing on Criminal and Traffic cases. Dominic P. Lascara is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia. He graduated in 1986 from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary after receiving his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, in Business Administration in 1981 from Old Dominion University.

Dominic P. Lascara joined the law firm of Roy, Forehand, Laine and Dale, P.C. as an associate in the fall of 1986 after being admitted to the Virginia State Bar. He was admitted to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in 1987. He became a partner of Roy, Larsen, Romm & Lascara, P. C. in 1992.
