As a mediator, I help parties tackle problems rather than each other. The traditional legal paradigm is of parties whose lawyers are like gladiators, going to battle in a war of good versus evil. After all the evidence is gathered and presented in an elaborate and expensive process, a neutral judge decides who wins and who loses. Mediation is a completely different mindset. The view of mediation is that disputes arise when values and interest are in conflict, but this doesn't mean either side is "evil". With positive communication and facilitation by a neutral mediator, parties are empowered to find win-win solutions, keep the resolution of their conflict private, control their own outcome, are more likely to find healthy solutions that meet all key interests, and are more likely to be able to preserve their relationship so they can continue to work together in the future. And mediation is more cost effective because it finds win-win solutions without escalating hostilities.

M. Rita Metts is a Divorce Lawyer and Social Security and Veteran Disability lawyer with over 17 years of experience. She has helped thousands of clients with DIVORCE, MEDIATION, SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY, VETERAN DISABILITY and various other legal areas.

Ms. Metts is a former Assistant Public Defender with the Newberry County Public Defender's Office. She currently owns and operates the Metts Law Firm, LLC. She is also the Town Attorney for Carlisle, South Carolina and a part-time Magistrate Judge for Richland County.

Margaret A. Collins is a lifelong native of Columbia, South Carolina. She attended the University of South Carolina Honors College, majoring in International Relations with a minor in Business Administration. After employment with the South Carolina Senate, Ms. Collins attended the University of South Carolina School of Law, while concurrently clerking for a small firm that focused on secured transactions, collections, creditor bankruptcy and contract law. Once licensed in 1997, Ms. Collins developed a very successful private practice encompassing general civil and domestic litigation, computer and information technology law, business, procurement, municipal and local government representation and much more. Only three short years after starting her practice, Attorney Collins was promoted to partner in an AV Rated firm. Throughout her practice, representative clients have included banks and financial institutions, information management companies, local government, entrepreneurs and start-ups, as well a variety of individuals. Attorney Collins brings an analytical and business approach to her practice, but maintains the creativity necessary to develop and implement “out-of-the-box” solutions to complex problems.
