The Asylum and Immigrant Rights Law Clinic (AIRC) provides legal representation to asylum seekers and battered immigrants. The clinic strives to put Biblical principals in action by welcoming the stranger and continues the long tradition of the Catholic Church of meeting the needs and rights of immigrants. The AIRC follows the guidelines designated by the UNHCR and the Immigration and Nationality Act of the United States to provide legal refuge for the immigrant seeking safety from a “well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion.” (From the 1951 UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.) This includes women and children seeking relief from domestic violence, trafficking, and other forms of abuse. The clinic provides services to refugees regardless of race, religion, political opinion or gender.
