Jerry Shiles became interested in family law and estate and special needs planning in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps and while assisting a special needs relative.
Mr. Shiles focuses on estate and elder law plan-ning, Medicaid, probate, estate litigation, business transactions, and family law (adoptions, guardian-ships). He has lectured at seminars and clinics in Europe, Japan and the U.S. and regularly conducts seminars for attorneys, CPAs, financial planners, nursing home administrators, and others.
Mr. Shiles is a Fellow of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Oklahoma City Tax Lawyers Group, Planned Giving Counsel of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Estate Planning Council, and the American, Oklahoma, Nevada, District of Columbia and Oklahoma County Bar Associations.
He is a retired Army Colonel with over 33 years of service, active and reserve, in legal and combat arms positions, including three tours as a Brigade Commander. His awards include the American Bar Association Distinguished Service Award, the Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award and Legion of Merit, and numerous other awards. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys and has been listed in Who’s Who in the Leadership of the United States, Who’s Who of American Lawyers, and Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals. He has been awarded an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Shiles earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah and completed his under-graduate degree in Business Management, with honors, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also holds a Certificate in Germany from the University of Connecticut, a Masters in Legal Letters from The Army Judge Advocate General’s School, and a Master’s degree in Strategic Planning from the U.S. Army War College.
