Harrison A. Lord is an attorney with the law firm of James, McElroy & Diehl. His practice focuses on all aspects of litigation, particularly trial work. He has a wide range of experience in a number of fields, including but not limited to disputes involving contracts, partnership disputes and derivative actions, misappropriation of funds, malpractice, and torts. Harrison also assists clients in pursuing payment of debts and past-due invoices, including pre-litigation negotiations, filing and prosecution of lawsuits, and assisting with post-judgment collections and remedies.

Before joining James, McElroy & Diehl, Harrison served a two-year clerkship to the Honorable Richard A. Elmore of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He is active in the North Carolina Bar Association, in which he was a member of the Charter Class of the North Carolina Bar Association Leadership Academy and the recipient of the 2010-2011 Charles F. Blanchard Outstanding Young Lawyer Award. Harrison currently serves as a member of the Strategic Planning and Emerging Trends Committee of the Bar Association and as a Division Director of the Young Lawyers Division.

Harrison grew up in Harnett County, North Carolina, before attending high school at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham. He received his A.B. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he double majored in Classics and History. While in college, Harrison twice earned the Monogram Award as a member of the varsity fencing team, and was listed three times on the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

Harrison attended Washington University School of Law, where he received a Scholars in Law merit based scholarship and served as Associate Editor for the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy. At graduation, Harrison was awarded the Judge John W. Calhoun Trial Practice Award in recognition of his talent for and dedication to trial work.

Terry Duncan attended law school at Texas Wesleyan University and is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Texas. He began practicing law in the Charlotte area in 1996. Terry is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, all federal courts in North Carolina including the Western and Middle District Bankruptcy Courts as well as civil and criminal courts.

Terry is one of the preeminent bankruptcy attorneys in Charlotte and has filed thousands of bankruptcy cases for his clients. During the last 10 years he has likely filed more bankruptcies than any other Charlotte attorney. He appears in the United States Bankruptcy Court proceedings several times each month. Ann graduated with honors and received a degree in engineering arts from Michigan State University. In 1994, she graduated cum laude from Tulane University School of Law where she was elected to the Order of the Coif. During law school, she was an editor on the Tulane Environmental Law Journal and was a Public Interest Law Foundation grant recipient. Ann worked first with the North Carolina Center for Death Penalty Litigation and then with the Cumberland County Public Defender's Office until she opened her own practice in Fayetteville in 1998. She joined the firm's Raleigh office in April, 2000, established a Charlotte office in 2007, and handles cases throughout the state. Today, Ann litigates serious personal injury cases with a special interest in representing victims of bicycle crashes. She also represents individuals seriously injured in car accidents and by negligent property owners and those involved in employment or contractual disputes.

Ann is active with the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ), where she serves on the Board of Governors. She has taught as a faculty member of NCAJ's Capital College and several National Institute for Trial Advocacy programs and coached a high school mock trial team from 2002-2006. Ann has prepared amicus briefs on behalf of the North Carolina ACLU and NCAJ. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the league of American Bicyclists and Charlotte Area Bicycle Association.

Along with Peter Wilborn, Ann is also part of mybikelaw, which is dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of cyclists in the Carolinas, and beyond. Ann and Peter are advocates for bicycle safety, and stand up for cyclists' rights on the roads and in court.

When she is not working, Ann loves to bike, ski or run.

"Laurie" Baker is a native Texan who found herself in North Carolina in 2004 to attend law school. • I have successfully argued in North Carolina Mecklenburg District Court that a plaintiff who has threatened their undocumented spouse with "telling the immigration authorities" about their status is evidence of domestic violence. This was the first case in the United States to rule on this point.

• I have adjusted the status for an applicant who was denied a green card because he once lied about his social security number. The applicant was granted a green card and today is a taxpaying resident.

• I have obtained legal status and work permits for a child who was a victim of human trafficking.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

While education about legal issues is helpful, clients should not assume that this gives them the training to appear before courts or argue legal issues, let alone navigate, the complex landscape of United States Immigration authorities.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
I will only review documents pursuant to a consultation or documents required as evidence to help a client who has retained our firm. I do not review documents prepared by clients who seek to present such documents to U.S. Immigration authorities in a pro se context.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

This is not a policy of our firm.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

To promote fairness and justice by testing charges and evidence presented by the government against an individual. In the immigration arena being the son of Greek Immigrant parents instilled the empathy and respect I have for the positive contributions that immigrants have and continue to make to our society.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Having lived in many countries, having received my education in Europe, and having represented hundreds of clients in criminal and family court in the United States, has given me the experience to represent immigration clients. I have had outstanding results for virtually all of my immigration clients.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Immigrants represent one of the best assets for our society, and unlike most other countries in the world, the United States has one of the best track records for accepting and assimilating new immigrants. Our system is not perfect, but compared to what I have witnessed in other countries, the United States still provides a relatively superior option for new immigrants who are willing to work and contribute to our society. Having said this, our system is not perfect, and I believe that through education in our schools, government and the media, more people will come to understand the tremendous contributions that new immigrants can and do make to our society.

Helping clients achieve freedom and realize their potential through devoted and zealous advocacy on behalf of their legal rights.
