John is the founder of the Minneapolis employment and civil rights litigation firm of John A. Klassen, P.A. He received law degrees from the University of British Columbia (1992) and Seattle University (1993).

Since 1994, John has practiced exclusively in the areas of employment and civil rights law. He has represented employees and victims of civil rights violations throughout the United States, in the areas of harassment and discrimination law, False Claims Act/Qui Tam claims, whistleblower law, wage and hour disputes, class action claims, employment contract disputes, and sexual abuse. Employees consult with him on a regular basis in regard to their severance agreements and non-competition agreements.

John’s cases have received international press coverage, including recent stories by the New York Times, the Washington Post and the International Herald Tribune. His cases have been featured on CNN and Minnesota Public Radio. In 2006 and 2007, John successfully litigated cases against the Minneapolis Fire Department and its fire chief for alleged sexual harassment and retaliation. This series of three related cases included this country’s first known reverse sexual orientation discrimination case against the head of a large public agency. Past victories on behalf of victims of workplace discrimination and harassment include million dollar-range results for his clients. John recently served as counsel in a series of multi-plaintiff race discrimination and retaliation cases against the Minneapolis Police Department on behalf of five veteran officers. Those cases settled for a combined $825,000.

John lives and works in the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is married and has two children and the obligatory Labrador Retriever.

Maury D. Beaulier, Esq., was raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Prior to his legal career, he worked as an intern for Congressman Les Aspin, head of the Armed Service Committee of Congress and later appointed as the United State's Secretary of Defense. Mr. Beaulier's primary area of practice is criminal defense where he has been lauded as professional and aggressive often leading to favorable resolutions of client matters without a trial.

My background:

I graduated summa cum laude from Hamline University School of Law in 2003. At Hamline, I was an editor of the Law Review, was ranked second in my graduating class, and received the Minnesota State Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section's Award for Excellence in Employment Law. I also clerked for a judge in Dakota County and later worked at the head legal office at the Pentagon.

After graduating, I clerked for the Minnesota Court of Appeals for a year, served a stint as a prosecutor, and entered private practice in 2005. My experiences have taught me to view issues from a variety of angles as I have seen how things can go wrong from all sides of a case.

Because of my experiences, I firmly believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I am happy to help clients in the beginning so that we can try to prevent problems before they occur, but I am very capable of addressing problems when they pop up.

Peter is past president of the American Association of Trusts, Estates, and Elder Law Attorneys (AATEELA), a national, invitation-only organization of attorneys specializing in estate planning and elder law. He is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; and a member of the Wealth Counsel, a nationwide collaboration of trusts and estates attorneys and other legal, tax and business professionals. Peter's continuing education and collegial involvement ensures the most sophisticated planning techniques are always available to the firm's clients. He is also a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Probate & Trust Law Section; and the Hennepin County Bar Association.

Peter graduated from the University of Toledo, College of Law in 1990, where he was Editor of the Toledo Law Review, 6th Circuit Edition. He has served as the chief appellate court clerk for Hon. Donald R. Ford, presiding judge of the Ohio Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit; and for Judge Gary Larson, of the Minnesota Fourth Judicial District Court.

Peter is a frequently requested lecturer for the University of Minnesota, College of Human Ecology, and speaks to private groups on a variety of different topics, including family protection planning, wealth preservation, and elder law. Peter also routinely instructs attorneys and other financial professional in the areas of estate planning and planning for the elderly.

Amanda grew up in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Growing up she spent most of her time in the goalie net and on the soccer field. After high school, Amanda attended the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management and received a degree in public relations and marketing while spending the majority of her time rowing on the Crew team and working at the Pillsbury Company as a Recipe Production Specialist (seriously). Unenthused by her job prospects after graduating, Amanda decided to take the law school entrance exam (for an interesting story, ask her what happened the night before the test).

When Amanda decided on the University of St. Thomas for law school, her mother said "Finally, why didn't she listen to me and her heart sooner?" At UST, Amanda participated in the elder law clinical program, externed for then District Judge Francis Connolly, and received her certification as a Qualified Neutral in both family and civil law.

After graduating from UST, magna cum laude, Amanda joined the law firm of Melchert Hubert Sjodin in Waconia, Minnesota. At MHS, Amanda spent her time practicing in a wide variety of areas and learned that she most enjoys solving problems for real people: individuals, families and small businesses. In 2011, Amanda and partner, Katie Hanson opened the law firm of Bloomgren Hanson Legal with a goal of providing practical people focused legal services. Amanda's practice areas include family law, real estate, small business issues and general civil litigation.

Amanda believes that the real way to solve problems is not through the court system, but by taking a proactive approach in planning and dispute resolution. That being said, Amanda's experience a wide variety of types of litigation allows her to effectively and efficiently represent her clients in the court room when necessary.
