Maria Fortune earned her law degree from the University of Denver School of Law with the honor of winning a Scholastic Excellence Award in Advanced Family Law. Although Maria Fortune exhibits a natural talent for family law, upon graduation from law school Maria Fortune joined the Colorado State Public Defender's office. As a Colorado Deputy State Public Defender, Maria Fortune served as lead counsel in criminal matters, and sought justice on behalf of families and children, in numerous pre-trial conferences, motion hearings, sentencing hearings, court trials, and jury trials. Maria Fortune litigated Juvenile, Felony, Misdemeanor and Traffic cases, involving a multitude of issues; such as, Assault, DUI, and Domestic Violence. As a Deputy State Public Defender, Maria Fortune sought justice for children and families in the criminal law arena.

After gaining experience in criminal defense, Maria Fortune desired an opportunity to prevent children and families from becoming victims and protect children and families from becoming involved in the criminal justice system. After much contemplation, Maria Fortune sought and earned a position as an Assistant City Attorney for the Child Protection Unit in Denver,Colorado. As an Assistant City Attorney, Maria Fortune represented the Department of Human Services in mediating and coordinating with families, social workers, psychologists, therapists, forensic interviewers, and various other entities to ensure the safety and best interests of children and families. Maria Fortune served as lead counsel on cases involving numerous family law issues; including, but not limited to, dependency and neglect, visitation, parental responsibility, parenting time, family reunifications, custody, and adoptions. As an Assistant City Attorney for the Child Protection Unit, Maria Fortune sought justice for families and children in the family law arena.

Although Maria Fortune truly enjoyed seeking justice in Colorado on behalf of children and families, as an Assistant City Attorney in the Child Protection Unit and as a Deputy State Public Defender, Alabama is home for the Fortune family. Gabrielle Helix, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, chose to enter law school at Birmingham School of Law after having pursued a successful career as a television journalist and protocol consultant. While in law school, she received the award for Most Outstanding Freshman in 2005 and was the Vice Chancellor of the Sigma Delta Kappa, Legal Honor Society. Gabrielle was also the recipient of an Honor Scholarship. She ultimately graduated summa cum laude from the Birmingham School of Law.
Prior to practicing law, Gabrielle worked in Saudi Arabia under the auspice of the Honorable Raymond Mabus, U.S. Ambassador. After coming back to the States, Gabrielle became certified in Etiquette and Protocol in Washington, DC. Directly after graduation from the Birmingham School of Law in 2007 as Salutatorian, Gabrielle opened her own practice in Huntsville, Alabama. While completing her law degree, she worked with Huntsville attorney, Gary L. Rigney, a distinguished trial attorney, gaining valuable experience in a number of areas of the legal field. Gabrielle volunteers as the Juvenile Drug Court advocate, assisting the Drug Court team in guiding juveniles and their families through the diversion program. The varied experiences of Joshua M. Pendergrass, make him ideally suited to serve clients with various needs and case types. Growing up in Fairview, Tennessee, a small town in a rural area outside Nashville, Josh learned from his grandparents, an appreciation for hard work, and for sticking to one's word. Upon graduation from high school, Josh attended Lambuth University, in Jackson, Tennessee, on scholarship.

By the time he graduated from Lambuth in 2007, with University Honors, Josh had gained an appreciation for helping others and had the opportunity to serve in various leadership capacities. During college, Josh served as President of the Student Body, Vice President of the Student Body, Student Member of the University Board of Trustees, Speaker of the House of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature, and was named to "Who's Who" of College and University Students. He was also an active member of the Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity where he served in seven different leadership positions. Also during college, Josh played active roles in numerous political campaigns throughout the state of Tennessee.

Upon graduation, Josh served as the pastor of the Bardwell and Corinth United Methodist Churches in Western Kentucky. During that time he also served as the Assistant Director of Sports Information at Lambuth. After leaving his charge in May 2008, Josh served as the campaign coordinator for a Tennessee Congressional Campaign, before starting law school in August 2008.

While attending Jones School of Law in Montgomery, on a partial scholarship, Josh was elected to serve on the Honor Court, served as Secretary of the Jones Law Republicans, and was a member of the Federalist Society. During his first year of law school, Josh advanced to the elite-eight of the first year moot court competition; and during his last year, he was a finalist in the J. Greg Allen Mock Trial Competition, and participated in the school's Family Violence Clinic. While a student, Josh was a law clerk for the Honorable Judge John B. Bush of Alabama's 19th Judicial Circuit, and worked at a Montgomery based political consulting firm where he worked for noted politicians such as Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, Alabama Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey, Alabama Agriculture Commissioner John McMillan and others.

After finishing law school a semester early, Josh served as the Director of Operations at the Cullman County Sheriff's Office until he joined the firm Watson, Watson, Pendergrass & Ross, in May 2011. In December 2011, Josh started Pendergrass & Associates, a law firm dedicated to assisting clients during some of life's most important and difficult moments. In addition to general legal practice, Josh's practice is mainly focused on Family Law, Juvenile Law, Criminal Law, Estate Planning, Civil Litigation, Election Law, Document Preparation.

Josh is married to the former Leslie Brown of Pinson, Alabama, and they have three dogs, Maggie, Kady, and Coco; they are also the guardians of Josh's teenage brother Jonathan.
