• I was born in South Texas to immigrant parents, the late Dr. Thomas Esparza, Sr. and Esther LaMadrid Esparza. They have been and always will be my teachers and mentors. Without their guidance growing up, I would never have accomplished anything. They taught me that I could learn and do anything I put my mind to.
• Graduated Texas A&M (1974 Gig’em) and the University of Texas Law School (1977 Hook’em). I am a former high school teacher who went to law school. After law school, I tried to save the world. After ten months I went to work for myself returning to Austin. My law school loan officer convinced that South Austin needed more lawyers.

• I have served as Travis County Justice of the Peace and president of the Capital Area Mexican-American Lawyers. I was also Chairman of the Becker Community Advisory Council. In 1986, I was named Austin Community Education Volunteer of the Year.
• I am a member of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association and National Lawyer’s Guild Immigration Law Project. Past Chair of the AILA Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico. I am currently the Vice Chairman of the Austin Commission on Immigrant Affairs.
• I
• I lecture and publish for the University of Texas, the State and Travis County Bar, AILA, English and Spanish newspapers and the web at tomesparza.com.
• I own Starlightpress.com publishing bilingual educational materials to schools and other stateholders. I write and publish children’s and adult bilingual educational materials with co author and mom, Esther LaMadrid Esparza.

• I honor of Laurier McDonald, Attorney at Law of Edinburg, Texas and a pioneer in immigration law in Texas. In addition to Laurier, Bob Shivers of San Antonio, Harry Gee and Charles Foster of Houston and Harry Joe of Dallas Laurier, have mentored and taught me during my entire career.

• I am married to the former Minerva Gonzalez of Bryan and the father of just got his learner’s permit Alex, and growing up to quickly twins Carina and Helana.
