Joann Brown Williams has been litigating for well over a decade. Joann’s “bread-and-butter” is business litigation, including breach of contract, corporate governance, trade secret, non-compete and non-solicit covenants, employment related disputes in the areas of discrimination, harassment and retaliation. Her “chocolate,” however, are claims dealing with First Amendment and defamation.
Joann has tried cases throughout Northeast Georgia in both State and Federal Courts and has practiced in State and Federal Courts throughout the country. Joann has been involved in several high profile cases that have been written about in The Los Angeles Times, The National Law Journal, Lawyers Weekly USA, Psychiatric News, TRIAL, The New York Times Magazine, Correctional Mental Health Report, The Verdict Magazine, The Gainesville Times, and The Fulton Daily Report.
Most recently, Joann has served as General Counsel for Textile Management Associates, Inc., serving the corporate and litigation needs of AstroTurf; Premier Polymers; Crystal Products; UTGH Equipment; Carpet and Rugs Backings and Supplies; Universal Textile Technologies; SYNLawn; Syntec; and Synthetic Turf Resources among others.

Douglas Woodruff has been in practice since 1996. He is currently the Chief Assistant Public Defender and specializes in complex criminal defense litigation, particularly those cases involving expert testimony.

David L. McGuffey is in private practice with Lovingood McGuffey, P.C. located in Dalton, Georgia. David limits his practice to Elder Law. This means he helps individuals who are elders or who have special needs, as well as their caregivers. Much of David's practice is devoted to helping individuals with chronic health conditions find, get and pay for good long-term care. David is certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation and as an Elder Law Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization. David is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

David attended Georgia State University (B.A., 1987; J.D., 1993). He is a member of: the the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America) and various local bar associations. He is the current Chair of the State Bar of Georgia's Elder Law Section and is a past-chair of the Tennessee Bar Association's Elder Law Section. David has been a member of the American Association for Justice since 1997 and, from 2006-2007, served as Chair of one of its national litigation groups. David holds memberships in other groups associated with elder advocacy such as the National Citizens' Coalition for Nursing Home Reform. David is a member of the Board of Directors of the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership (re-joining the Board in 2008) and the Northwest Georgia office of Georgia Alzheimer's chapter. He is an advisory committee member for Peachtree Estates Assisted Living Facility and Ross Woods Adult Day Care Center. In 2008, David joined the Ethics Advisory Committee for Alexian Brothers in Chattanooga. David is a member of the Special Needs Alliance, a group of attorneys dedicated to the practice of disability and public benefits law.

The Elder Law Practice is a member of the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association and David is a member of that Association's Board of Directors. David is one of three co-editors of the NAELA E-Bulletin, a weekly electronic newsletter that keeps Elder Law Attorneys up-to-date on news and cases related to the practice of Elder Law.

David is a Christian (Presbyterian). His core beliefs generally follow those states in the The Apostles' Creed. Although we do not impose our beliefs on anyone, if religious values are important to you, then we will attempt to incorporate them into the planning process upon a client's request.

In his free time, David is an avid reader. He enjoys the outdoors, good food (cooking as well as eating), travel, and movies. One of David's favorite activities is watching Georgia Bulldogs football (Do you have tickets?). His favorite TV show is House, although 24 runs a close second.
