Kirk A. Lauby has a varied and comprehensive background in business management which is of particular benefit to the firm's business and business litigation clients. He enjoys motorcycle travels, slow food, music from bluegrass to folk, jazz to classical, rough playing with his two white German Shepherds, and coaching youth sports. MICHA STAR LIBERTY is a civil rights attorney specializing in litigating serious injury, civil rights, sexual abuse, consumer, and employment matters in both individual and class actions. I've tried over the years to avoid the pitfalls of bad lawyers. I try to be humble, polite and hard working. I never lie to a client. I strive for excellent results for a fair price. I never steal from my clients. A good nightâs sleep is worth far more than ill-gotten gains.

The highest duty of every lawyer is loyalty to his client. A good lawyer returns calls from his clients and works on his cases to move them along as quickly as the court allows.

I show clients what they canât do for themselves. I have 40 years of experience winning cases and studying the law. A good reputation builds good referrals from my clients.

Most lawyers are incredibly greedy. There are many who lose their licenses to practice law every month because theyâve cheated and stolen from their clients. They have no moral values or pride in their work. Each client is a new victim of their insatiable drive to become wealthy. They are never trusted by the Court, other lawyers or even by their own clients.

A clientâs trust is achieved by telling the truth, being honest and building a reputation for hard work and successful results. My clients trust me because Iâve been treating clients properly and fairly for forty years. Even if it demands that I tell them the bad news on their case. I often do charity work for clients who cannot pay me a fee. I believe that a lawyerâs time and knowledge are his stock and trade. They have nothing else to sell. A humble, polite, hard working attorney is an attorney that you can trust. I never talk down to my clients. They can understand the law if it is clearly explained to them.

I make my clients my helpers in winning their cases. If they understand the problems and the options they can see the correct path to success.

I have been a highly successful trial lawyer for 30 years, with extensive experience in many different areas. My primary focus, however, is civil and business litigation.

I have represented hundreds of businesses and individuals in matters ranging from simple contract or business disputes, to matters as complex as patent and antritrust litigation, and everything in between.

I was once described by a senior federal district court judge as one of the top three attorneys who had ever practiced before him.

I valued that endorsement, as much as the praise I received from the late Stanley Mosk when I clerked under him on the California Supreme Court, and as much as the honor I had in being an associate editor of the California Law Review while attending the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall Law School.

TOUGH, BUT FAIR

I am a tough, battle-hardened trial lawyer who has passion for the practice of law.

I am fierecly competitive, and have a have frequently been described by both clients and adversaries as a " "bulldog'.

While I fight hard to win cases, I also consider myself to have good common sense and a modicum of fairness. These skills help me quickly size up a case, and know when to fight, and when to settle.

It is at least as satisfying for me to settle a case fairly, and without large fees, as it is to win after a long and difficult trial. Thus, I will try hard to settle a case, but only on terms I belive are fair to my clients.

OTHER INTERESTS

While I enjoy the practice of law, and devote whatever time is required to achieve success, I have many other interests as well.

I have two sets of twin boys, all of whom are in elementary school, and a beautiful wife, who in her former life was an excellent family law lawyer. I treasure the time I get to spend with all of them.

I am also an avid sports fan, and would-be athlete. In my younger days, I played a lot of tennis, basketball, and baseball. Nowadays, the most exercise I get is chasing, or being chased, by my four boys.

All in all I consider myself fortunate to have an excellent law practice and a great family.

WHY I AM SELECTIVE ABOUT THE CASES I TAKE

Clients frequently ask why I don't work for a firm, or hire a bunch of associates, and run a law mill that cranks out the cases and billable hours.

After being an associate at a huge law firm, and a partner in a boutque Westside firm, I have come to realize I am better able to serve my clients by handling the cases myself.

In that manner, I can control both the quality of the work, as well as the billable hours.
