Mike Arias is the senior and managing partner of the firm. He handles matters throughout the United States. Mr. Arias has litigated and tried matters from New York to Texas to California, in both state and federal court. He has resolved hundreds of matters, either by trial, arbitration, mediation or negotiated settlement, resulting in millions of dollars in recovery for the firm's clients. The "AV" rating is the highest rating given and is awarded only upon reaching
"heights"of professional excellence, both in terms of legal ability and ethical standards. He has also been selected to Southern California Super Lawyers for 2009 and 2010, an honor reserved for the top 5% of attorneys practicing in Southern California. Mr. Arias has also been retained as an expert witness/consultant in numerous matters.

Mr. Arias received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Southern Connecticut State University and his Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine University - School of Law. During law school, Mr. Arias was elected to the Moot Court Board, represented Pepperdine in the Jessup National Moot Court Competition, and was appointed Chairman of the Trial Advocacy Board.

Prior to forming Arias, Ozzello & Gignac, Mr. Arias was associated with a well known litigation firm where he was lead trial attorney on one of the firm's trial teams. He handled matters ranging from complex business and technical litigation to major product-liability and personal injury matters. Previously, Mr. Arias was associated with an internationally renowned litigation-defense firm where he worked on a wide range of matters including contract, aviation-disaster and product-liability litigation.

Mr. Arias is admitted to practice law in California, New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. He also is admitted before numerous federal courts. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles ("CAALA") and the Consumer Attorneys of California ("CAOC"). Mr. Arias is a member of the American Bar Association, American Association for Justice, Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, California Employment Lawyers Association ("CELA"), Los County Bar Association and the Sports Lawyers Association. He also has served as an arbitrator for the Beverly Hills/Los Angeles County Bar Association Fee Dispute Program. Mr. Arias is a certified agent with the National Basketball Players' Association, Major League Baseball Players' Association and National Football League Players' Association, and has negotiated millions of dollars in contracts for dozens of professional athletes.

Mr. Arias is the immediate past President of the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa del Rey. He served as Vice-President of Governmental Affairs of the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce and is the past Chairman of the Board of the Westchester Family YMCA. He serves on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations including the Westchester Playa Del Rey Youth Foundation, LAPD Pacific Area Boosters Association and the Westchester Rotary Club. I've tried over the years to avoid the pitfalls of bad lawyers. I try to be humble, polite and hard working. I never lie to a client. I strive for excellent results for a fair price. I never steal from my clients. A good nightâs sleep is worth far more than ill-gotten gains.

The highest duty of every lawyer is loyalty to his client. A good lawyer returns calls from his clients and works on his cases to move them along as quickly as the court allows.

I show clients what they canât do for themselves. I have 40 years of experience winning cases and studying the law. A good reputation builds good referrals from my clients.

Most lawyers are incredibly greedy. There are many who lose their licenses to practice law every month because theyâve cheated and stolen from their clients. They have no moral values or pride in their work. Each client is a new victim of their insatiable drive to become wealthy. They are never trusted by the Court, other lawyers or even by their own clients.

A clientâs trust is achieved by telling the truth, being honest and building a reputation for hard work and successful results. My clients trust me because Iâve been treating clients properly and fairly for forty years. Even if it demands that I tell them the bad news on their case. I often do charity work for clients who cannot pay me a fee. I believe that a lawyerâs time and knowledge are his stock and trade. They have nothing else to sell. A humble, polite, hard working attorney is an attorney that you can trust. I never talk down to my clients. They can understand the law if it is clearly explained to them.

I make my clients my helpers in winning their cases. If they understand the problems and the options they can see the correct path to success.

I hire honest experts in accounting, business, medicine and law. Honest clients and honest experts build character in an honest attorney. Lawyers that deal with dishonest people soon become dishonest themselves.

Mr. Cowan earned his B.A. (cum laude) from Cornell University in 1986 and his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1991.
