The By-Laws of the Dauphin County Bar Association include a commitment "to encourage the fulfillment of the obligations of the profession among its members to the courts and to society, [and] to promote programs to provide effective, affordable legal services to all segments of society . . ." In keeping with this responsibility, all members of the Bar Association are expected to participate, personally or financially, in the Pro Bono Program, which is administered in conjunction with MidPenn Legal Services.

MidPenn Legal Services is a private, non-profit, public-interest law firm dedicated to providing equal access to justice and high quality legal services to low income persons and survivors of domestic violence in central Pennsylvania. MidPenn was created in 2000 through the merger of three similar programs that have been in existence since the 1970’s, each of which has a long history of working for these same goals. MidPenn has a highly qualified and dedicated staff and a governing board committed to serving our client community.

Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania ("LASP") is a non-profit Pennsylvania corporation committed to deliveringhigh quality civil legal services to low income people, victims of domestic abuse and the elderly living in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware Counties. LASP provides legal services typically in the areas of landlord/tenant disputes, public housing, utilities, consumer problems including foreclosures and sheriffs'' sales, bankruptcy, denial or termination of government benefits such as welfare, Social Security and unemployment compensation, protection from abuse, custody, child dependency, divorce, license suspension (not in all counties) and elder law issues. While most of these kinds of cases are handled in all locations, there are currently some differences between counties in the kinds of services provided.

The services rendered in these areas can consist of information and advice, drafting of legal documents, negotiation and representation in administrative and judicial proceedings. LASP also engages in community legal education through the compilation and distribution of brochures and other written materials on a wide variety of civil legal issues and talks and presentation to client and social service staff groups.

The Pro Bono Project is a joint project of the Delaware County Bar Association and the Delaware County Legal Assistance Association. The project teams volunteer lawyers with low income clients to help them in non-emergency cases. Over four hundred of the members of the Bar Association have agreed to participate in this program.

North Penn Legal Services provides free legal aid services on civil cases to low-income families, individuals, and groups in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Services include individual representation (ranging from document preparation to litigation), information, referral and advice through a telephone helpline, community legal education, and support for those clients who will be taking responsibility for handling some or all aspects of their own problem.

A non-profit organization founded in 1977, the Support Center for Child Advocates offers free legal and social services to Philadelphia's abused and neglected children. We advocate for these child victims with the goal of securing a permanent, nurturing environment for each child in our care.

The mission of WAA is to provide quality and compassionate services, in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in persons who have been victimized by domestic violence. WAA operates the only shelter in Philadelphia exclusively for battered women and their children; the nation's first legal center for domestic violence victims; and the region's first transitional housing program for abused families.

VIP provides free civil legal services to low income clients by recruiting and training volunteer lawyers to handle pro bono cases. We also assist non-profit organizations and small businesses that serve the needs of low income people through our LawWorks project.

Founded in 1988, the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania is a non-profit, public interest law firm providing free legal assistance to its home office in Philadelphia. The AIDS Law Project also educates the public about AIDS-related legal issues, and works at local, state and national levels to achieve fair laws and policies.
