I am a former Imperial County Deputy District Attorney IV (2002-2009), the last three years of which I served as the Director of the Special Prosecutions Unit (Narcotics). Phil Israels was born in 1948 and raised in California's Central Valley where he still has family in that area. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley where he was a member for Zeta Beta Tau fraternity and studied Economics. He continued his education at the University of San Francisco, School of Law where he received the prestigious American Jurisprudence Award.

Upon graduation in 1975 and passing the bar in his first attempt, he was hired by the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, where he worked for almost four years as a prosecutor gaining extensive trial experience. Since 1979, he has been a criminal defense attorney. He sees his role as the protector of the accused. However, his prosecutorial experience has helped him understand the mindset of his adversaries both in the trial court and in negotiations.

Although he has much trial experience his background, skills, and contacts has often allowed him to obtain favorable results without the extra expense associated with trial. As a defense attorney, he has successfully handled cases ranging from accusations of driving the influence, murder, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, and complicated white collar cases. As a prosecutor, he worked in all of the branch offices including West Los Angels, Van Nuys, San Fernando, San Pedro and downtown (Criminal Courts Building, Bauchet Street and Metro). As a defense attorney, he has practice in all the major courts in Southern California and has had successfully defended clients in the Los Angeles Criminal Courts Building, Metro, Van Nuys, San Fernando, Torrance, Pomona, Ventura, Airport Court, and Citrus, among other courthouses.

When requested he has traveled across the country to represent his clients. As a defense counsel, he has also gained extensive experience in the Juvenile Courts including Sylmar, Inglewood, Los Padrinos, and Easklake. He is a Board Certified Specialist in the field of Criminal Law, a designation which puts him among approximately one percent of those attorneys who refer to themselves as criminal lawyers in the State of California.

Mr. Israels has been named 'Super Lawyer' by the Los Angeles Magazine, an honor which he has received several times. Steve Cron was born in 1948, and raised in the San Fernando Valley. He attended North Hollywood High School, UCLA, and Hastings College of the Law, graduating in 1973. He passed the bar on the first try, and began working as a Deputy Public Defender for Los Angeles County. During his six years in the Public Defender's Office, he handled juvenile cases, misdemeanors and felonies. It was a great place to start, with a high volume of cases ranging from minor misdemeanors to murders, and everything in between.

After six years, in 1980, Steve decided to start his own practice. He loved the practice of law, but wanted the opportunity to be his own boss and to be able to build long-term relationships with his clients.

For 30 years, Steve has been in private practice in Santa Monica, representing those accused of criminal acts. He alone represents each of his clients, and he maintains personal relationships with the clients while representing them, and often, for many years after the attorney/client relationship has ended. When clients hire Steve, they know they will get his undivided attention, and that their case will not be handed off to another lawyer with less experience.

Steve loves being a criminal defense lawyer. Everyday he gets to help people who are often in trouble and experiencing a terrible time in their lives. Being able to help people dig out of those situations is really rewarding. Although being arrested or charged with a crime is a horrible experience, Steve always tries to find a way to make this a positive experience. An arrest is often the result of recurring negative behavior, and sometimes such an experience can cause someone to reevaluate their lives and change negative behavior. For example, someone arrested for a DUI might come to realize that they have been drinking too much and take steps to curtail their drinking, or a domestic violence arrest might cause someone to begin anger management classes which help to save a relationship.
