William G. "Bill" Edie brings considerable experience to the firm, having been a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado Springs for almost 20 years. He also has experience as an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas, Texas, as well as at a commercial litigation firm in Denver.

During his tenure at the DAâs Office in Colorado Springs, Mr. Edie has served in the Economic Crimes Unit for over 9 years, handling well over 100 such cases from investigation to conclusion, including a number of jury trials involving financial crimes. Additionally, he served 14 years as the lead attorney for the Grand Jury, participating in the majority of the cases presented during that period. He has also been assigned to handle a general felony caseload, and has had direct involvement in over 100 jury trials. He has successfully prosecuted a number of homicide cases, been appointed as Special Prosecutor in Pueblo, Fremont, Otero, Las Animas, and Kiowa counties, and acted as the lead attorney for the Vehicular Homicide team at the DAâs Office. He has lectured on Grand Jury practice before other DAs in Colorado, and has successfully argued Economic Crimes cases before the Colorado Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.

Mr. Edie is licensed in Colorado and Texas, as well as the District of Colorado and the Tenth Circuit in the Federal system. He received his Bachelors Degree in Communications and Law Degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and holds a Masters in Business Administration from SMU. He has served as an adjunct instructor and advisory board member at Pikes Peak Community College, and was appointed to the board for the El Paso County Bar Law Library. Additionally, he has served on the Woodland Park City Council and Planning Commission, and chaired the committee reviewing the cityâs municipal court system. He is currently involved in coaching youth sports and enjoying the great outdoors with his wife and two children in Woodland Park.

Work History
Ms. McDonald started her legal career as a summer clerk for Federal Magistrate Judge Bruce D. Pringle. She went on to a large firm touching on a wide variety of personal and corporate legal issues and settled in the corporate restructuring and capital recovery division. In 2004, Ms. McDonald became In-House Counsel for a real estate firm providing legal advice and counsel from corporate formation issues to business succession planning to contracts to auditing company policies and procedures. In 2009, Ms. McDonald joined forces with Ms. Johansen and formed Johansen, McDonald & Associates, P.C. to focus on providing legal services to small- to medium-sized businesses and business owners.

Community Involvement
Ms. McDonald is a current member of the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce, and the Legislative Action Committee for the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce. She is also a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Denver Bar Association, and the following divisions of the Colorado Bar Association: Intellectual Property; Solo/Small Firm Practice; Trusts and Estates; and Business Law. Ms. McDonald has served as a Children's Ministry Director and volunteered extensively for a variety of adult literacy programs. She is currently the Chairman of the Character Education Committee for the Buffalo Ridge Elementary Alliance and is never far from the title "Coach" for a variety of pee-wee sports.

Jim Underhill has been practicing law for over 29 years, with particular focus on business advice, real estate issues and investment, and commercial transactions.

Coining the Term "Business Divorce" ® to describe a very specialized and important type of legal issue and legal dispute.

While a civil litigator many years ago, Jim noticed that many disputes between the owners and operators of closely held and family businesses resulted in the collapse of the underlying business due to the acrimony involved. He developed the expertise and coined the term Business Divorce to describe the specialized legal services he offers to address these issues. The last ten years have been spent refining his skills and techniques in providing services to clients undergoing dissolution of their businesses.

Jim also provides mediation services in cases involving dissolution of a business when counsel may already be present or litigation is underway. He provides a neutral viewpoint based not only on the law but also on extensive experience with business disputes to help save the business while resolving disputes.

Real Estate Disputes

Jim is especially knowledgeable in the analysis and protection of unusual real estate interests for developers, land owners, and also regarding specialized properties such as patented mining claims and U.S. Forest in-holdings. He has also handled numerous adverse possession and commercial real estate cases, including the foreclosure of two different Colorado ski resorts and other commercial and residential properties.

A Brief History of Jim

After passing the bar in 1979, Jim served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. As trial counsel and government appellate counsel, he prosecuted at trial and on appeal more than 600 courts-martial. He then went on to become a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, serving in the criminal section of the Tax Division, where he prosecuted numerous cases involving violations of the tax laws in the federal courts. During his tenure in Washington, D.C., Jim obtained the longest sentences adjudged to date against tax protestor (militia) defendants.

He left in 1986 to escape to the mountains and practice civil litigation and business law in the Denver Metro area. He worked with a number of private law firms until opening his own practice in 1993. Since 1994, Jim has practiced law with his wife and law partner, Joanne.
