Representative engagements include:Managed the defense of a $500 million claim by a public authority against property insurers for removal of asbestos from hundreds of buildings in the New York metropolitan area.Litigated novel coverage issues concerning thousands of FELA claims relating to repetitive stress and deleterious substances. Pursuing equitable contribution claims on behalf of various London Market insurers seeking recovery from co-insurers of payments made on asbestos claims.Represented London Market insurers in environmental coverage actions in Washington, New Jersey, Arizona and Texas.Coordinating defense of construction claims against owner and contractors at major international airport under an owner-controlled insurance program.Regularly advising clients on the underwriting of property, directors officers, and other forms of insurance.In addition to this insurance coverage and cost recovery work, Matt has handled numerous other business disputes. Examples of this work include:Representing a financial institution in various regulatory, bankruptcy and litigation matters arising from the Enron bankruptcy. Successfully tried two age discrimination cases on behalf of a non-profit corporation. Negotiated relocation of a Worcester business resulting from eminent domain taking by Massachusetts Highway Department. Acted as lead attorney in a pro bono civil rights action brought against the City of Atlanta on behalf of five homeless men, the settlement of which resulted in changes to training of police officers and investigation of complaints by homeless persons against the police.
