About Joshua Farley
Joshua D. Farley is currently practicing criminal defense, personal injury, medical malpractice, and appellate law with Michael L. Hawkins & Associates in Frankfort, Kentucky. Prior to joining Michael L. Hawkins & Associates he was employed for five and a half years as an Assistant Attorney General for the Office of the Kentucky Attorney General. Josh has filed more than two hundred and fifty briefs with the Kentucky Supreme Court and the Kentucky Court of Appeals, and has filed various pleadings, memorandums, and briefs in state circuit courts, federal district courts, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Josh has twenty-nine published opinions and has appeared for oral argument fifteen times: nine times at the Kentucky Supreme Court, five times at the Kentucky Court of Appeals, and once at the Supreme Court of the United States. At the age of twenty-nine, Josh became one of the youngest attorneys to ever appear before the Supreme Court of the United States on their own petition for certiorari and win; securing an 8-1 victory for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in Kentucky v. King, 131 S.Ct. 1849 (2011). Josh is a frequent presenter and speaker on criminal and appellate law, presenting at the 2007 Kentucky Mid-Winter Prosecutors Conference, and the 2010, 2011, and 2012 Kentucky Prosecutors Conferences. Josh has been a guest speaker and lecturer on appellate issues and oral advocacy at the University of Vermont Law School, the University of Chicago Law School, the University of Louisville, Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, and the Kentucky State Government Bar Association. Josh has also received specialized training in Supreme Court of the United States Advocacy (2010) and Appellate Advocacy (2011) presented by the National Association of Attorneys General. Josh received a dual bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Theatre (2003) from Vanderbilt University and his juris doctorate (2006) from the University of Louisville – Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. While in law school, Josh was inducted into the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels and the Southern Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Josh was recently named as a Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, Distinguished Alumnus for 2013.
