Joanne earned her B.A. in chemistry from Bowdoin College in 1994. While at Bowdoin she studied the stabilization of strained species by zirconocene complexation. Following her undergraduate studies, Joanne received her Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999. Her work in Professor Jeffrey Winkler’s laboratory focused on the application of tandem Diels-Alder methodology to the preparation of the cyclopropyl taxane skeleton as well as the design and synthesis of novel Epothilone analogs. Following graduate school Joanne worked in the drug discovery groups at Sepracor and Beyond Genomics. Her role as a medicinal chemist in these groups concentrated on the preparation of ligands for GPCRs. These ligands were targeted at the treatment of CNS mediated diseases.
